Assalamualaikum.
Will be working for sevem days this week. Tomorrow I will be heading for Boy Scouts Jamborie. Then on Saturday, there is going to be a course in school.
Sometimes I wonder, am I a teacher or working in the private sector? I think, it was up to me whether I worked on weekends or not back in the old days in MNRB. Or was it just wishful thinking? I thought that being a teacher would mean half a day's work, and lonnngggg paid holidays. How wrong was I!
But.... Perks of being a teacher is this. For me, my stress disappears when I enter my class, especially my Year 1 kids. I just love them to pieces. They are so so so adorable. Even when I pretend to be fierce so that they wouldn't be so naughty, they still are adorable. There's this kid, she cries at the drop of a hat. But I try not to encourage this habit. Because I don't want my kids to grow up to use tears as one of their arsenal in getting what they want.
Besides, one of the subject that I teach is Music. And how am I going to stay stressed when I get to sing with my kids, aye? One kid in my class commented, and he said an I quote: " Teacher, you are always singing." And I just smiled and said, " Of course I am always singing, I teach you Music, remember?" Unfortunately, due to timetable shuffling, I will no longer be teaching Music for his class. Last year, I taught them English and Music.
I think. When I am tired or stressed or both or feeling demotivated or just thinking, what was I thinking whenI chose teaching, I have to remember why. Why I became a teacher. And let's not talk about pay etc. Let's talk about job satisfaction. Let's talk about nation building. Let's talk about doing something worthwhile. Anyone can be an engineer. Anyone can be a doctor. Anyone can be a lawyer. But NOT all have the patience that it takes to teach.
Honestly, my choice had been queried and questioned by a lot of people around me. Be it my relatives or my friends or my boss back then. One horrible question was, " Are you sure, a 4.00 student wants to be a teacher?" Or another is "Are you sure you want to be a teacher? Do you know how small a teacher's salary is?"
I had no answer them. But as time goes by, (4 years and counting!), I think it was worth the obstacles and the trials and tribulations and the hardships. Not everyone could wake up every morning and gets excited about the day and goes to work without dragging their feet. There maybe some bad days. But I think a majority of it would be good. Especially when I have cute and adorable kids to go to. All I want the little caliphs to grow up into responsible and devout Muslims, insya Allah.
P/s:
1. Writing this entry so that I won't feel demotivated and angry at being directed to work Fridays and Saturdays. Besides, on Tuesday, Terengganu will be celebrating Sultan's coronation. Thus a break in the middle of the week! Yeay!
2. Am thinking of learning how to play the guitar. Or just how to play a keyboard. Would make it much more easier to teach Music to my kids. Need to survey for class fees etc and crunch some numbers.
3. Don't know how to end this entry. So, tra ta ta!
Wassalam.
With love,
Wanrohani
