Should I...

I don’t like to write about my profession. I don’t know why. Sometimes, on May 16th each year, I find myself staring into the blank Microsoft Office Word, trying to find the correct phrases and sentences to describe how I feel that day;  About how being in this profession has changed me, and I how I hope it’s for the better.

Unfortunately, I could barely string 2 sentences together. I remembered my written essay as one of the requirements for the interview:

Q: Why do you want to be one?

A: Definitely not because of the money. If I were to put monetary values on this profession, then it’d be really pointless. I want to teach the children from rural areas in Terengganu.

Comment from me now: Well, they did say that be careful what you wish for right? Now, I am living my dreams, teaching in rural area in my own state. Hehehehe.... I have no regrets actually about the place that I’ve been stationed to.

What pains me now: the type of people I encounter in this place. Sure, there are some great people here. But, sadly, there are some really highly educated people with 3rd world mentality.

Should that person be considered a teacher when he/ she:
1.       Reads newspaper even when it’s her/ his time to teach?
2.       Gossips incessantly about other people but fails to reflect on her/ his faults?
3.       Criticizes others and finding other people mistakes when she/ he is not that perfect?
4.       Keeps on sms’ing/ talking on the phone/ browsing the net, even when it’s her/ his time to teach?
5.       Refuses to accept the responsibilities to her/ him, especially when it is additional class for our pupils, with the reason being having no transportation?
6.       Refuses to go to a course with the same reason as above?
7.       Attacks other teacher because other teachers tell the true story of her/ his children misbehaviour?
8.       Borrows money from others by selling her/ his sad story and then going on a buying spree?
9.       All of the above...

Wise men used to say that respect should be earned, not be given. When you do things that make others disrespect you, don’t expect others to believe in you anymore. You get what you give. Full stop.

Differences between Caring and Just Being a Plain Busy Body:

Right now I am crazy about writing and comparing between two things. For example, before this I wrote about dignity vs pride. Now I want to write about being a caring person vs just plain busybody.

I am sure that most of us have had the misfortune to encounter busybodies or in my case I like to call them unpaid CNN reporters. Who likes them? Ah, I think the right question would be who hates them? I am the first to raise my hand. I don’t actually hate them, because hate is such a strong word. I feel indifferent towards them and try to avoid them at all costs.

Me, I am a firm believer that one should protect and guard one’s privacy zealously.

Why must we air our dirty laundry for all and sundry to see and criticized?
To my disappointment, I seemed to have the bad luck to encounter the CNN reporters wherever I go. Well, actually after I graduated from UKM ok? In UKM my friends are too busy with lab reports and tutorials to be one. Heheheheh… that’s why it’s such a shock when I met them after my degree studies.
So how do we avoid these types of people?

First, we must keep our secrets carefully. Don’t be too trusting. Now, I am not promoting being a cynical person. But remember, sometimes the people that hurt us the most is the ones that we put our trust in.

Second, don’t be one. If you don’t want people to snoop around your secrets, then, avoid being one.

Thirdly, pray to Allah to be protected from these people after you have tried to take steps to avoid them. Tawakkal to Allah and insya Allah He would protect you.

Okay, good luck in avoiding busy bodies!

A Thin Line Between Pride and Dignity

According to the Oxford Dictionary,
1. Pride:(disapproving) the feeling that you are better or more important than other people
->see proud

2.Dignity:sense of your own importance and value / a calm and serious manner that deserves respect

There is a difference between pride and dignity. Remember the novel Pride and Prejudice? I am not certain whether I read the whole book or not, or even I read the book at all, but I googled the book just now and realize that sometimes pride makes a cold bedfellow.

Anyway, so is it wrong to have pride? I’ve read somewhere that the hero said to the heroin, have some pride. But I think, pride is good only in small doses. You should never be too proud because that could lead to your downfall. And of course, the most important thing is that Allah dislike people who are too proud. Be humble of your achievements and wealth and other blessings. You never know when Allah is going to take them back from you, because they are just on loan from Allah to you to test whether you know how to be thankful or not.

I think a person should have dignity. He/she must know his/her self-worth. Never let others undermine you. When others criticized you, you should reflect whether it’s true or not. If you are like what they say you are, then it’s time to change. But if you are not, don’t let what others say about you bothers you so much. If you think too much about others perceive of you, I don’t think you’d be happy (note to self jugak!).

Be happy. Be free.

Menghapus Jejakmu (BM entry)

Saya sedang mendengar lagu Peterpan Menghapus Jejakmu. Sebenarnya lagu ni tentang lagu cinta, kot? Tapi saya rasa lagu ni sangat sesuai dengan situasi saya sekarang. Ani, lupakan kisah sedih dan menyakitkan hati. Teruskan melangkah. Sesekali kita menoleh ke belakang untuk mengambil iktibar tidak mengapa, tapi untuk tenggelam dalam kesedihan, itu adalah tidak bagus untuk jiwa kita...

Mengapa perlu meratap nasib?

Utamakan orang tersayang, keluarga, kawan, kekasih? heheheheh....
