Being Happy

“It is not by accident that the happiest people are those who make a conscious effort to live useful lives. Their happiness, of course, is not a shallow exhilaration where life is one continuous intoxicating party. Rather, their happiness is a deep sense of inner peace when they believe that their lives here have meaning and that they are making a difference for good in the world...“

I watched the movie a long time ago – The Pursuit of Happyness, based on the book by an author Chris Gardner. He was a poor man who rose to greatness through sheer determination and hard work.

So yeah, I think it is not falsehood to say that the majority of humans and even other creatures strive to find happiness in their lives. Of course, they are those who choose to be miserable. As the quote above mentioned – happiness is a choice. Why be sad when we can be happy instead?

That being said how are the best ways to achieve happiness? What does total happiness means? Well, I can’t answer that question because happiness is such a subjective matter. For one person, happiness might mean looking at her baby son’s smiles, for another, happiness might mean buying new clothes. However way you might think happiness is, the best way is to return to Islam.

True happiness means when you follow Allah’s rules and you are under His Grace. Some people think that they would achieve total happiness when they are successful, become rich or famous. They are wrong. If true happiness comes from money, fame or success, why is that there are people who killed themselves when they achieve all they hoped for? Why do Kurt Cobain, Heath Ledge etc committed suicide when they should be happy with their lives? There must be something wrong somewhere I think.

At the end of the day, we shouldn’t just chase the happiness of this world only. We must make sure that we are happy in this world and in the hereafter, insya Allah. May Allah bless us all!
